I screamed when I heard Ulwazi BlueBridge announced as the Outreach & Education Winner at the 2025 Blue Tech Pitch Competition, hosted virtually by Black in Marine Science (BIMS). This recognition means more than words can capture. My research company, Ulwazi, was founded to make science accessible, actionable, and relatable, moving research out of the academic bubble and into the hands of policymakers, innovators, and communities who can use it to drive change.

Through Ulwazi BlueBridge, we’ve built a platform that connects science, policy, and society in ways that are reshaping our understanding of the ocean and the Blue Economy. From training researchers to crafting science stories that inspire trust and visibility, we are proving that communication is not just support work, it’s innovation in itself. The Blue Economy is expanding rapidly, and the world needs solutions that are inclusive, equitable, and rooted in local knowledge. That’s exactly what we stand for. I’m deeply grateful to BIMS, to the judges, and to everyone who continues to believe in Ulwazi’s mission. This win reminds me that when science meets storytelling, real change happens.
